   EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2004  

Ordinance No. 1951

Section 1.  That Chapter 6, Section 23, Vaccination against Rabies-is hereby amended as follows:

Every person owning a dog within the city, before obtaining a license for such dog, shall present satisfactory evidence that the dog for which such license is brought has been vaccinated against rabies as required in this section at the time application is made for such license.  All dogs and cats shall be vaccinated against rabies annually if a 1-year vaccine is being used, and every 3 years if a 3-year vaccine is used.  All vaccinations shall be considered valid only if administered by licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Section 2.  That Chapter 6, Section 6-38, Release of impounded dogs and cats-fees is hereby amended to read as follows:

Before any impounded dog or cat is released, there shall be paid to the Dog and Cat Shelter, a boarding fee for each day or fraction thereof that the dog or cat is impounded, the amount to be determined by the Shelter Manager with direction from the Shelter Board, the amount to be reasonable and customary for such fees in the region.  The Shelter Manager may waive impound fee's when the fee's would, due to financial difficulty, prevent the pet from being returned to its proper owner.  In addition, a pound master's fee of ten dollars ($10.00) for each neutered male or spayed female; provided that proof of such neuter or spay is furnished to a representative of the Dog and Cat shelter, or a fee of twenty five dollars ($25.00) for each un-neutered male or un-spayed female over the age of six months, plus the license fee for any unlicensed dog.  The certification for inoculation of rabies from a veterinarian must also be exhibited before any dog may be released.

Ordinance No. 1952

Section 1.  That Chapter 6, Section 6-15, License and registration, is hereby amended to read as follows:

All dogs kept, harbored, or maintained by their owners in the city shall be licensed and registered if over six months of age.  Dogs shall be licensed and registered at the Dog and Cat Shelter, who shall collect the license fees therefore.

Section 2.  That Chapter 6, Section 6-17, Fees, is hereby amended to read as follows:

The cost of a dog license shall be ten dollars ($10.00) payable to the Dog and Cat Shelter for each neutered male or spayed female; provided, that proof is furnished to the representative of the Dog and Cat Shelter that such dog is neutered or spayed, and fifteen dollars ($15.00) for each un-neutered male or un-spayed female over the age of 6 months.
