Our goal is for every animal to have a purpose or a place. Until then our mission is to provide them the best "home in between homes."

We are a 501C3 Non-Profit.

Tax ID: 83-0211418

When you make a charitable contribution of cash to a qualifying public charity, in 2020, under the CARES Act, you can deduct up to 100% of your adjusted gross income.

A measure in the federal coronavirus relief bill grants taxpayers an above-the-line deduction for up to $300 in charitable donations starting in 2020.

Normally, you have to itemize deductions to get a tax write off. In this case, the break is available to people who claim the standard deduction, which is $12,400 for singles or $24,800 for married-filing jointly in 2020.

It’s possible to deduct the full fair market value of S-Corp or C-Corp stocks when donating private stock as a gift.

There's financial incentive to give generously.  When you donate to the Dog and Cat Shelter, a 501©3 Corporation, you take an income tax charitable deduction, reducing your taxable income and your tax bill!

Improve your community while reducing your taxable income!

The Pandemic

The COVID crisis has created global chaos. Sheridan has been fortunate in comparison but the Shelter’s financial future as far as municipal sources is concerned will be drastically reduced. On top of the financial changes COVID has also increased other aspects of shelter life. People bring their surrenders or found animals from neighboring counties and states. They say they’ve heard great things and feel comfortable leaving their friends, who they must surrender, many times for no other reason than a change in their economic outlook. They feel comfortable and grateful because they know we will treat their pet friend with love and care until we can re-home them.  This atmosphere is a direct result of the caliber of staff and volunteers that dedicate themselves to this mission. They all deserve quality, consistent care and they receive it every single day.  We feel very proud and privileged to be a part of this organization.  If you have donated already, thank you!  If you haven’t, and are able, please be part of the family that makes our Shelter a “Home in Between Homes”.

Exciting Event Fun!

The Dog & Cat Shelter and the Unleashed Foundation are co-hosting the inaugural “Hoot and Howl” event on Saturday, September 26!!

Entrance fees benefit the Dog & Cat Shelter’s partnership with the Unleashed Foundation to provide ESA and basic training for dogs that need help getting placed! There are no “Bad Dogs” - but sometimes they need help becoming “Good Dogs”!

The hike starts at Hidden Hoot Trail near the soccer fields on West 5th Street. The hike is 5 miles and is considered a medium technical trail. We encourage participants to bring their leashed dog. ALL DOGS MUST BE LEASHED! NO FLEX LEADS ALLOWED. The trail is narrow and steep in places and doesn’t afford room for dog mishaps.

$25 Pre-registration can be done online until September 23rd at the link below. The first 50 Pre-Registered entrants receive a t-shirt at the event. All others will receive one after the event. Same Day Registration is $35.

This will be a first come first served staggered start event between 9:00am and 11:00am on September 26. This is not a timed event. It’s all for fun and for the animals!
